Since June of 1986, Sue Croft has been honing her knowledge and problem-solving skills as a purchasing agent for the Ohio Nut and Bolt Company. Not only has she seen many changes throughout the almost four decades she’s been a part of the team, but she has also been an integral part of the company’s history. She’s not afraid to dive headfirst into each and every challenge she faces, and she enjoys meeting new people along the way. Read along as she sheds some light on her experience and shares details about herself.

What do you enjoy most about the work you do?

Every day is different. There are challenging times that test my knowledge and ability to “problem-solve”. I also enjoy the new people I meet that become Vendors or some that don’t, but I am glad I met them.

What inspired you to join the team here?

I was looking for a career outside of banking. My uncle and brother-in-law worked here, and they told me about a job opening. When I heard it was 100% employee-owned, had great benefits and how great it was to work here, I knew I wanted to be a part of the history of this company.

What would you describe as a “typical” work week?

Organized chaos! A day can start out quiet and end up being crazy and that echoes throughout the week.

Looking back, what advice would you give to newer employees who are just starting their journey with the company and may eventually become long-term ESOP participants? 

Don’t touch your distributions!!!! Seriously, roll them in the funds and leave them alone. You will be surprised at how much they accumulate. Contribute to the 401k’s we offer. Most importantly, be patient. Don’t be financiallylazy, take an interest in your financial future. We offer way more than when I started.

When you’re not working, what do you enjoy doing?

I love long walks, gardening (flowers), and spending time in the quiet, especially by the lake.

What is something surprising that not many people know about you?

I used to ride a motorcycle and rode out west… twice.

Favorite food, celebrities, sports teams?

I love Italian and Mediterranean foods and God, therefore I take no notice of celebrities. I love, love, love college football– Ohio State in particular.

With which cartoon character would you most wish to swap lives with? Why?

It would have to be Snoopy. He is well-loved, a great dancer, musically inclined, very funny, and can change identities to a Fighter Pilot, or whatever the situation finds him in. He does a great job decorating his house for Christmas, but mostly he is a great support to Charlie Brown and dear friend to Woodstock. He can diffuse an out-of-control person with a kiss on the nose!
